Who is this Course For?


Are you an experienced electrician, keen to benefit from the budding UK green economy? Are you looking to expand the range of work you can carry out to include Solar PV? If so, this could be the course for you.

Why Take this Course?


This course will provide all the necessary training you need to plan, install, commission and maintain solar photovoltaic systems. The course will also demonstrate the level of competence required for entry to the NAPIT Microgeneration Certification Scheme for solar PV.

This Course Covers (over 3 days)


This course will provide all the training you require to safely and efficiently install and maintain a range of solar photovoltaic systems, and is delivered via the following topics:

•    Design and system performance
•    Installing a solar photovoltaic D.C. circuit in accordance with manufacturer’s guidance,
     regulatory requirements and industry recognised procedures, to include the positioning,
     fixing and connection of components
•    Inspecting and testing
•    Commissioning
•    Handing over a solar photovoltaic system
•    Undertaking  routine service and maintenance
•    Undertaking fault diagnostic work
•    Undertaking  fault rectification work

Course Structure


This 3 day course involves hands-on practical as well as essential theoretical training and assessment.

It will cover the selection of the most appropriate solar PV system to meet the demands of a building and the needs of the consumer.

You will learn how to install, maintain and service common PV types safely and efficiently.

Course Materials


NAPIT provide all reference materials and/or test equipment; candidates wishing to use their own instruments must bring a current, in-date calibration certificate.

The course also involves an ‘open book’ exam which will allow you to use relevant literature as a point of reference to complete your paper. NAPIT provide all reference materials and literature for ‘clean book’ courses such as this.

Course Requirements


You must hold an NVQ 3 Level in Electrical Installation or equivalent as well as a 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification to BS7671:2008(2011).

On Completion of the Course


Successful completion of this course will provide evidence that suitably qualified individuals can include with their application to the NAPIT Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

Candidates will have gained the skills and knowledge to install solar PV systems with confidence and will gain a BPEC Solar PV Certificate.
