Asbestos Awareness Course (NA-AA-1)
Course Reference: (NA–AA-1) NAPIT
Who is this Course For?
Asbestos awareness training is a legal requirement in the UK under the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012). This training is therefore mandatory for anyone liable to be exposed to asbestos fibres at work. This includes a wide range of tradespeople. Around eight joiners, six electricians and four plumbers per week die from asbestos related diseases.
This course aims to raise awareness. It is not appropriate for those looking to become asbestos removal professionals.
Why Take this Course?
Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work related deaths in the UK.
Inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause a variety of serious diseases, all of which are incurable and ultimately fatal. This makes awareness of how it can be identified, where it can be found and what to do if you come into contact with it of vital importance.
Asbestos was not formally banned (in all its forms) until 1999. However, existing asbestos product installations, provided that they are not likely to be disturbed or damaged, is legal. Its excellent insulation properties also mean that it was used prolifically prior to this date. The result is that asbestos can be found almost anywhere in UK buildings.
NAPIT’s asbestos training is approved by the Independent Asbestos Training Providers (IATP), an organisation that works in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). This means our training has been independently audited to demonstrate compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012).
