Who is this course for?

If you are an Electrician with at least two years’ domestic and commercial installation experience and you would like to gain a formal qualification to demonstrate your skills and knowledge, this is the course for you.

Why take this course?

As an industry recognised “open book” inspection and testing qualification, this course provides a valuable alternative to “closed book” City & Guilds qualifications, which involve time commitments that some tradespeople may be unable to meet. 

Successful completion of this course will demonstrate sufficient knowledge in one of the key areas necessary to join electrical Competent Person Schemes.

This course covers (over 5 days)

This five day course covers the initial verification, periodic inspection, testing, condition reporting and certification of electrical installations, and is assessed via both theory and practical exams. 

Day 1: Registration, reference documentation, certification, inspector’s requirements.
Day 2: Examination technique using sample questions.
Day 3: Examination technique using sample questions. Written exams.
Day 4: Practical and Online Assessments.
Day 5: Practical and Online Assessments.

Course Structure

The course focuses on examination techniques, improving your knowledge of the theory behind the practical skills you already possesses in inspection and testing. It will prepare you for the multiple choice “open book”, online, written and practical examinations which you will need to pass in order to achieve the full qualification.

All candidates should bring:

The 17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS 7671: 2008 (2015)
Guidance Note 3 Inspection and Testing 
On-Site Guide (BS 7671:2008 Wiring Regulations, incorporating Amendment 3:2015)
Health and Safety Executive., Electrical test equipment for use on low voltage electrical systems: Guidance Note GS38 (Fourth edition)
Their own test instruments with current calibration certificate

Course requirements

This level 3 qualification is only suitable for electricians experienced in the inspection and testing process. All learning will be theory based, enhancing your knowledge of the subject matter and providing the opportunity for exam practice. No testing techniques will be taught, but the course will involve practical examinations. Candidates are expected to possess these skills.

On completion of the course

On successful completion of the course, you will receive a Logic QCF Certificate for Initial Verification & Periodic Inspection of Electrical Installations, an industry recognised qualification that satisfies the EAS (Electrotechnical Assessment Specification) criteria for membership of an electrical Competent Person Scheme.
